Nightmare is the anti-Night, however, he has little evil in him. Nightmare's personality changed during a battle against Scourge and the Supression Squad. When Scourge started to beat his planet into submission to gain power, Nightmare decided to stop him. When he finally faced Scourge, he noticed he also brought along his Supression Squad, but being the arrogant person he was, Nightmare fought them all. The battle looked grim for Nightmare, underestimating the SS's teamwork and Scrouge's new power. After being beaten into the dirt, Nightmare decided to use his full power to destroy them all, however Scourge interupted his process, causing Nightmare to create an unstable portal between Moebius and Mobius. Scourge gave him the boot and sent him through the portal. The portal sent Nightmare through a barrier between the two worlds, causing devestating effects to his body. That event was not the end of Nightmare, for he was rescued by Dr. Cybonick. Dr. Cybotnick studied Nightmare's body and noticed that half of his Moebius cells were transformed into Mobius cells and his body was undergoing a transformation. Cybotnick accelerated the transformation process, turning Nightmare's fur color and markings darker, and he grew an extra pair of quills that sagged over his shoulders. Cybonick gave him a new outfit and sent him to Mobius instead of Moebius. His personality change drastically. He became far less arrogant and wicked, he obtainded more of his anti-hero personality, a strategic mind, and suprising, remorse, but he still is cocky, mean, cruel, and arrogant. Nightmare then sent out on a quest to find his double to test his new skills and get use to his transformation. At first Night did not recognize his evil double, but Nightmare was able to get him to see he was his double. It soon resulted into a duel that led to a stalemate. Night then discovers that it was not just his double's appearence that changed. Nightmare explained what happened to him to the point that night had Sarah study him and she confirmed he was half Mobian, half Moebian. Over time, Night and Nightmare became rivals rather than sworn enemies. Apon his return to Moebius, Nightmare swore revenge on Scourge, promising to crush not only his body, but his pride and spirit.

Much like Night, Nightmare has a suprisingly large amount of uncontrollable chaos energy and supresses it with special bracelets on his wrists. He is fast, but uses gravitational devices on his shoes to reach super sonic speed.
